About American Nephrology Council (ANC)

What is ANC?
American Nephrology Council (ANC) is a not-for-profit organization seeking to advance the many common interests of kidney patients, nephrologists, and dialysis providers.  We are dedicated to uniting our voices, increasing the number of nephrologists actively engaged in kidney care advocacy, and ensuring appropriate economic security for physicians and other kidney care specialists.

We have joined together to advance the interests of our specialty by forming a strong, unified “front” with a more focused voice to promote responsible public policy for our kidney care community.

What is ANC’s Mission?
ANC is a non-profit organization dedicated to continuing to improve the quality of care received by kidney patients by promoting responsible public policy for our community of kidney patients, nephrologists, and dialysis providers.

What does ANC do?
ANC's goal is to serve as a grassroots utility, complementing and supporting the efforts of leadership nephrology organizations by bolstering current issue advocacy efforts. We believe that in order for our advocacy efforts to be successful, nephrologists need to be more involved and organized than ever before, particularly at the grassroots level, which will be the major initial focus of ANC.

How did we get here?
ANC was formed in the summer of 2006 by a group of nephrologists after they identified a need to join forces in advocacy efforts for kidney care.  While there are several other patient, physician and provider organizations who are effectively communicating kidney care issues, this alliance of nephrologists fills a different, but complementary niche in the kidney care advocacy community. Membership is open to all nephrologists who want to be better informed and to advocate for positive change in the kidney care community.

How is ANC Impacting the Kidney Community?
ANC is committed to heightening the awareness of issues that may affect kidney patients, nephrologists and dialysis providers. We want to create a strong, unified front with a more focused voice to promote responsible public policy for our kidney care community. Working cooperatively with other patient, physician, and provider organizations we want to become a major force, shaping legislation that benefits us all, especially our patients.
